Who?
Kuga Natsuki is
a sixteen year old girl at Fuuka Academy in the anime Mai (My) HiME. Losing
her mother at an early age, she became set on revenge against the people
who had ruined her life. Utilizing her powers as a HiME (Highly Advanced
Materializing Equipment), Natsuki embarks on a one-woman quest against
the First District. These tragic events caused Natsuki to all but lose
her complete faith in humanity and the world...until she met Fujino Shizuru.
At the start
of the show, Fujino Shizuru is a third year student at Fuuka Academy,
and the President of the Student Council. She is the only person who is
remotely close to Natsuki. Having met Natsuki a few years back, Shizuru
was the only one who extended her hand out to the reticent girl, helping
Natsuki find her faith once more in society. At first Shizuru is only
depicted as the smiling, pacifist of the Student Council. However, as
the story progresses we learn that she is far more beneath the surface.
Why?
Being two of the most interesting characters from the series,
it is no wonder that the relationship between Kuga Natsuki and Fujino
Shizuru has become one of the most intriguing and complicated aspects
of the show. From being cute and playful, to overcoming so many difficulties
together, Shizuru and Natsuki show us how two girls can evolve and change
with the help of each other. From friends to possibly something more...
The Site...
The current layout features a screencap from the Japanese DVD release
of Mai HiME. The scene is from the second DVD release containing episodes
3-5. It is the second omake (extra) which consists of a monologue by Shizuru
on how she first met Natsuki.
The name "Into the Sunset" was inspired by the screencap. The
words used in the layout "To the end of that pretty dream..."
is a rough translation of a line in Natsuki's image song on the first
Character Vocal Album, "Kirei na Yume no Sono Hate Ni."
